Dan Clark Aeon 2 Noire edition, most recent update to the Aeon closed back, planar magnetic driver headphone. Aeon 2 Noire feature all the great Aeon things - very comfortable thanks to the low weight, deep pads, small size that fits well around the ear with plenty of room, just right clamping force so they stay in place - as well as folding headband and durable, detachable cable.
Choose with a 2m cable with 3.5mm plug & 6.35mm adaptor - or - 2m cable with a XLR plug.
Aeon 2 Noire are made using memory metal and carbon fiber, build quality is excellent with low weight. The Planar driver is made in house and provides a very even balanced sound quality. Now several generations on, response in the frequency extremes is very good and the tuning is surprisingly even and clean for a closed back headphone.
Feed Aeon 2 Noire some power, the impedance is low but with the low sensitivity, these need way more than a dongle dac to sound their best.
There are several versions of Aeon on the market. Yes, there are also big differences in price and audio quality between them. This version is way more fun to listen to than the models below. As per Dan Clark: Experience the dynamics, detail and smooth sound of ÆON 2, with a striking black finish and a vibrant new sound with an expanded soundstage and a lighter midrange tone relative to its ÆON 2 Closed sibling.
Don’t be fooled: while it looks a lot like the ÆON RT, the ÆON 2 is a completely new and updated design. ÆON 2’s brand new driver uses our second generation TrueFlow technology that takes detail retrieval, dynamics, bass extension, and soundstage to a whole new level- which is why the New York Times Wirecutter called ÆON 2 Closed the best-sounding closed headphone under $2,000.
Having owned audio technica - m50's for 8 years straight run from my pc the overall upgrade to these was mind blowing in all aspects. Comfort, sound, build, clarity and while being larger, they are still lighter. In combination with a schiit hel 2e these absolutely deliver and I'm super happy that I went with them. Yes they cost a good chunk of money but if you're looking for a closed back, look no further. This is endgame for me
