Focal Bathys review, Digitaltrends:  As I bounced between the Bathys, the Sony XM5, and the Bowers and Wilkins PX7, all in wireless mode, I was struck by how much more open, airy, and spacious the Bathys sounded. By comparison, the Sony and B&W sounded closed in, almost claustrophobic, which is curious because I’ve never described either as sounding that way in the past. It took hearing the Bathys to reveal how much I’d been missing...

The Bathys also sound expertly balanced, with just a bit of added warmth in the bass, a completely transparent midrange, and some of the most articulate, accurate treble I’ve heard from a set of wireless headphones. Honestly, it was hard to believe I was listening via Bluetooth. But then I switched to the wired digital connection using the Bathys’ onboard DAC, and I realized just how much better the Bathys could sound, given a higher-quality signal.

Stuff magazine: 2023 Headphone of the Year!!

Cnet.com: in terms of pure sound quality, the Bathys may be the best of the bunch and I particularly liked the built-in DAC and the ability to switch easily between wired and wireless modes.

Headfonics.com: 9/10 : Focal Bathys represents a serious upgrade on consumer headphone choices

Wired.com 9/10: I’ve spent a few months with the French audiophile brand’s superb noise-canceling over-ears... If you’re a discerning listener who loves a bit of style you can’t do better on the go: Ditch the AirPods Max and go with these. It’s like trading up from a red Corvette to a Rosso Corsa Ferrari.

    Immensely Nice

Very nice sound out of these. They’re somewhere warmer than neutral and slightly brighter than neutral but not enough to bug me (I’m not keen on either very warm, or very bright so take that for whatever it’s worth) and they’re well tuned overall so the audio presentation is very cohesive. They’re definitely the best wireless headphones I’ve ever tried, but its when you put them into USB DAC mode (the feature that I didn’t realize that I needed) that they really start to shine. The brightness was a bit grainy out of the box but that disappeared entirely after run in. One minor quibble is that the supplied USB-C cable is rubbish. Mine has gone flaky after about a dozen cycles. That’s a small thing to replace but it’s still an overall negative point that, while irritating, doesn’t impact my enjoyment of these wonderful cans.

    Great all rounder

This headphone is great for gaming and music, the usb c dac mode really does improve the sound quality. Soundstage and layering are greatly improved in transparency mode, and side by side they blow away the airpods max.

Might be the last headphones you will need

If you’re looking for Great sound you usually don’t find it with Bluetooth headsets. These are the exception. I have tested many in ear models looking for that perfect pair, purchased and returned many over ears looking for that perfect pair. Secondly with an iPhone you’re limited to your options for Hi-Res listening. Let me start by saying I want sound quality above all else. With iPhone and AAC it’s the best sounding Bluetooth headset in ear or over that I have heard to date. Then with the option to run a dragonfly cobalt out of my MacBook and connect the Bathys with the 3.5mm connection the sound just opens up and the detail is more crisp and clear. Then the magic really happens when I connect my iPhone to the Bathys with a USB-C to USB-C cable to utilize the internal DAC on the Bathys. This is accomplished by using a ddHi-Fi TC28i Pro into the iPhone. These completely open up, soundstage is centered and instruments in all areas of the track can be pin pointed. Like I said in title. You may not need another pair of headphones wired or wireless as these do both exceptionally well based soully on sound quality.
