iFi Audio xDSD is a high res usb and bluetooth dac, headphone amp. xDSD can connect with your phone or ipad wirelessly with bluetooth. xDSD can connect via USB to your phone or computer and has an analogue input/output. xDSD has a black-chrome finish.
xDSD's dac can decode the highest res files and provides clean, clear, very detailed sound. It sounds a bit cleaner/brighter than the iFi black label dacs, which have a slightly warmer sound. The xDSD headphone amp is a new iFi design, called Cyberdrive - it offers strong output, up to 500mW at 16 ohms. Together with the low output impedance, the xDSD has enough output to drive almost all full size headphones (yes, HD650 do great with xDSD) & has no channel imbalance issues at low volume. (Slight background hiss with Andromeda when music paused.)
xDSD has MQA decoding built in, perfect for Tidal streaming. There are 3D & XBass fully analogue sound adjustments - adjust to taste. iFi have mastered the Burr-Brown dac chips, combined with a femto clock for near zero jitter - for high end full size dac performance in a tiny pocketable design.
*Using it in store - Paired to LG G6 via bluetooth with a Hifiman Sundara headphone - its cool being able to walk around with the xDSD in the pocket, driving the headphones well. Its about the size of an Altoids mint tin. Stepped volume control has 110 steps and changes colour with volume level.
Headfonics.com: 8.9 The xDSD can get to ear-splitting levels with the Hifiman Sundara... the BT sound quality is really good compared to other aptX capable devices. It was a smart move to run it through the internal DAC and not via the onboard BT chip. It is a little thicker, darker and not as resolving as wired but compared to competing BT performances such as the FiiO Q5 I think it is a little more open sounding. The wired sound is also excellent with plenty of connectivity options and tweaks.
