The Hifiman HE400i is an around ear, open back planar magnetic headphone. HE400i has soft Focus earpads & a comfortable soft flex headband for a great fit & long wearing comfort. These are a glossy dark grey finish. HE400i include a 1.5m cable wrapped in nylon weave with a 3.5mm plug/6.5mm adaptor.
Be aware, the sensitivity is low, meaning these need more power to drive than your average 35 ohm headphone. HE400i is meant to connect with a headphone amp, not direct into phones & computers.
For a high quality affordable dac, the new iFi ZEN dac or Fiio K5 pro are great options.
The HE400i provide many of the strengths of Hifiman's pricier planar magnetic headphones - great clarity and separation of instruments and vocals, clear treble without sibilance and tight bass response from the large, fast drivers. There is a clear, black background during quiet points / between instruments that good planars excel at providing.
