iFi HIP Dac2 Portable USB/DAC Amp - Gold Finish -

    Final Clearout!!

HIP Dac2 with a XMOS usb interface and full MQA decoding, while retaining its compact size, high power output with balanced out option, optional XBass, low/high gain, for earphones / headphones and its very capable Burr Brown dac.

iFi HIP Dac2 has USB input only, works with computer or phone and a built in battery allows HIP Dac2 to perform better than usb powered dongle dacs, as well as to be used on the go.

iFi HIP Dac2 shines with quality earphones or full size headphones from Sennheiser, Hifiman, Meze, Beyerdynamic, etc, for a great listening experience from a super compact device. Note, when using with harder to drive headphones, battery life will be reduced.

TIP! - The XBass can be a great match with open back headphones, if you want a fuller sound from them, for movie listening or low volume listening.

Headphone Bar iFi HIP Dac2 Review
    12/14/2023

Good price. Fast, friendly professional services ce.

Love it! I purchased the original hip dac about 2 years ago. Love the sound signature. I have other high end equipment - NAD M51 DAC/ Krell amplifier/Topping 90D - to compare with. The hip dac2 provides the same quality sound, only cleaner and quieter. Enjoying it. Buy with confidence from Headphone Bar.

It's good for my intended use

I'm using this on my main computer for gaming and to pair with my phone when I want to listen to music while walking to work. For gaming it's just fine. The sound is warm, full, and rich. The ambience of a game like BG3 is on full display with the HIP Gold DAC. Paired with my Pixel 4 it's a considerable improvement over the phone by itself. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD600 headphones for daily use. Music has more detail with the HIP Gold than without it. And the portability is great. Can't knock it. But that's where the good ends. I have an Atom DAC+ with amp for just sitting and listening. There's no comparison. The HIP Gold can't compete. The bass for the hip is muddy, soft, and lacks impact. Listening to Rufus album "Rags to Rufus" just exposed the limitations of this DAC in this area. What should have been big, fat, funky bass lines were a mess. The Gold also misses the mark throughout the rest of the listening range. Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" should never be a disappointing album. It nearly is with the HIP Gold. In "Oh Daddy" when the piano hits as Stevie Nicks comes in with her first vocal "Oh daddy", the piano should do a long fade. The guitar notes throughout the song are supposed to hang on through Fleetwood's drums and McVie's bass. They die out so quickly. You lose a big part of what makes this song great. The same goes for the rest of the album. For straight up listening it just can't compete with the Atom. The difference was noticeable even when they weren't side-by-side. Do the side-by-side comparison and it's unfair. If you want a good little portable to pair with your phone, or a gaming DAC that kicks the one on your motherboard in the teeth, then HIP Gold will do the trick. Use case matters.
